Steel City Squares

Traditional Appalachian Square Dancing in Pittsburgh, PA

About Steel City Squares

If you want to experience Appalachian old-time square dancing in Pittsburgh, sign-up for our mailing list and follow Steel City Squares on Facebook or Instagram to find out about our upcoming dances!

No experience or partner necessary! All dance are taught and accessible for dancers of all abilities.

Our dances are usually held at the Shiloh Center at 3832 Mintwood St in Lawrenceville (google map) unless otherwise noted.

Doors open at 7:00 pm, for a community potluck dinner (bring something to share if you like and you can also BYOB). Dances begin at 8:00 pm and go until about 10:30.

Every month features a live band and caller.

Dance bands and callers vary from month to month, but are formed with some of the best dance fiddlers in the area and sometimes special guests from around the region and beyond.

There is typically a $10-15 suggested donation at the door so we can cover the cost of the space and pay our hard-working musicians and callers fairly.

We don’t want cost to be a deterrent though, so if you’re interested in checking out the dance we encourage you to do so regardless of your ability to pay.

All of our dances are family-friendly and kids under 12 are free!

We also strive to make our dances a safe space that is welcoming and inclusive for all. See our inclusion and consent page for more information.

Come as you are! All are welcome!

If you’re interested in volunteering to help us organize the dances, please fill out this form and we’ll get back to you!
